Goals.
Main project goals
(1) Fight against discrimination based on age, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics of older people, and to promote the rights of older LGBTI people, through raising awareness of different target groups and contributing for a more equal and inclusive society.
(2) Promote a network of professionals across Europe concerned with this kind of discrimination, for an exchange of good practices and to make people more watchful for reporting cases of discrimination based on age and LGBTI’s issues.

The project intends both, to fight against discrimination based on sexual differences and to raise awareness about non-discrimination on the basis of age.
Targeting health and social care professionals – together with the wider community - Best4OlderLGBTI will also input on promoting diversity management in services which, according to researchers, are particularly at risk for older LGBTI because the professional practice continues to be compromised by ageism, homophobia and this can adversely affect the delivery of care. Best4OlderLGBTI attempts to address this issue and to provide the basis for a European approach to the growing numbers of LGBTI people who are living longer and need to be protected and empowered to contrast discriminatory practices. The underlying approach of the Best4OlderLGBTI is: 1. An awareness-raising campaign through different channels. • Online - By making available a website in several languages of EU Member States (English, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Dutch, Greek and French) with online awareness actions, testimonial videos and information about rights, legislation, research, literature about the topics, the project is providing a far-reaching campaign for specific target groups and for the society in general. |

Myths, stereotypes, discriminant attitudes and their consequences on people suffering for it will be discussed, bringing up and promoting the rights of older people in general and older LGBTI people in particular, and so fighting against discrimination based on age, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics of older people.
• Physical - By creating and using several visual materials, like the mupis, posters and leaflets which will reinforce the far-reaching campaign, and reach people who do not use or are unfamiliar with technology. All these activities will contribute on making the issues of discrimination visible and present in the society, and so contributing to raising awareness about it, and to the appreciation of the rights of older people and LGBTI. 2. Development of an innovative face-to-face intervention programme with health and social professionals to mitigate stereotypes and negative attitudes regarding sexuality in old age, including LGBTI. 3. Implementation of a pilot, including the training courses for facilitators. |
